Electric vehicles are the most common cars, trucks, motorized bicycles, electric scooters, vehicles, golf carts, forklifts and similar vehicles because the batteries were not suitable for applications that were in need of a wider range or a large power and load capacity: this factor has now been passed and they were made trucks, motorcycles, buses and other electric vehicles. Electric vehicles have an overall more energy efficient than most internal combustion engines. A gasoline engine has an efficiency of 25-28%, a diesel approaching 40%, while an electric motor to AC induction has an efficiency of 90%. To make fair and sensible to the comparison between the two types propulsion energy this value of 90% should be scaled by a factor of about 0.57 due to the efficiency of conversion from the energy contained in the primary source (the hydrocarbon) into electrical energy considering more efficient power plants or those combined cycle obtaining a value of the total efficiency in the cycle of production / use electric equal to about 51%, to be further scaled by a factor due to the losses of efficiency in the transport of electricity along the electricity distribution network and by a factor of efficiency of accumulation of 'electricity in batteries to recharge. Similarly, for petrol and diesel should also be considered as the energy expended in the extraction, refining and transport (which is often the case of rubber, resulting in an additional power consumption low efficiency) of the fuel used. If the electricity is produced by wind, solar or hydropower, much of the above discussion loses much of its validity. If consumes energy produced in this way, the electric motor produces no exhaust fumes or water vapor, and overall it has a virtually zero pollution if supplied with electricity generated from renewable sources. The new models can travel for hundreds of miles on a single charge, even after 160,000 km of use of the same batteries.
